2 # Editoras — De Eenhoorn abril 24, 2005
De Eenhoorn Publishers is a small, independent publishing house that has been in business since 1990. At first, it only published a two-weekly newspaper for children and a magazine on health. The newspaper was a big success, so in the next years more magazines for different age groups were launched. At the moment, De Eenhoorn publishes six different magazines for children from 3 to 14 years old. As early as the second year of its existence, the staff came up with more publishing ideas. This led to the publishing of the first children's books: Puntje Puntje Puntje (Dot Dot Dot) and Eefje Donkerblauw (Elly Dark Blue). The former was awarded two prizes, the latter is still the best-seller of the company.
In 1996 the company started to explore the international market, attending the Bologna and Frankfurt Book Fairs. Success was not long in coming, for in a few years time more than 70 books of De Eenhoorn have been published by publishing houses in Germany, France, Spain, Norway, Brazil, Japan and Korea.
Today, the catalogue of De Eenhoorn contains about 250 children's books, divided into different categories: cardboard books for toddlers and infants, picture books for 3 to 8 year olds, books for first readers, novels for 8 to 16 year olds and poetry for children and teenagers. Every year, De Eenhoorn publishes about 45 new books and reprints five to ten successful titles.
